The e-portfolio is first and foremost a tool for students to store their work and select their best work to document what they are learning while here at GateWay.  The benefit for students is that they can keep track of their learning each semester and see which of the six areas they have worked on and which they still need to work on. The six areas are:

• communication
• problem-solving
• critical thinking
• computing
• humanities
• math and science

Students may also find that the e-portfolio can help them identify their likes and dislikes about their educational and professional life. It will also help them make better decisions about future courses to take, career planning or graduate school selection.

In addition to helping students track their learning, the e-portfolio will also allow faculty to assess how well students are meeting the learning outcomes as defined by the GateWay Faculty.
