Conducting mathematics is very much an exercise in logic and reasoning.` It sharpens our powers of analysis and organization and it strengthens our critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, mastering basic computational skills provides us with some of the most essential tools needed to interpret and interact with the world around us. Only mathematics allows us to determine the motion of the planets as well as the balance in our checkbook. It is true that "Mathematics is the gate and the key to all the sciences" as well as the foundation for economics, engineering, art and music. You should post your best examples from math or any class that demonstrates your computational skills, how well you identify and organize relevant data, and how well you apply math principles to solve math problems.
In examining the world in which we live, it is science
that puts the fundamentals of mathematics into motion and provides a rational
process to test what is known and discover what is unknown. Using the principles
of logic and critical thinking, science seeks to explain nature in a way
that is verifiable and quantifiable. Within the many fields of science,
it is chemistry that provides the alphabet with which the language of nature
is written while biology explores the answer to the enduring question,
"What is Life?" In learning the basics of chemistry and biology we are
learning about our ourselves, the world in which we live, and the world
we are capable of creating. By using the principles of scientific inquiry,
we strengthen our ability to define, analyze and evaluate what is known
and we gain a healthy and balanced skepticism that encourages continued
learning. You should post your best examples of lab reports, journals or
essay responses that demonstrate scientific inquiry, how well you plan,
conduct and evaluate evidence, how well you use computer technology, or
how well you analyze real-world scientific issues.
