Thyroid gland 400X

Each follicle appears as a ring of cells surrounding one thyroglobulin
colloid
(pale pink region). Follicle cells remove iodide from the blood and
use it to form T3 and T4 thyroid hormones. In the process, each follicle
also stores large amounts of T3/T4 precursor in the form of thyroglobulin.
Parafollicular cells (C cells) lie just outside of the follicle cells
(some are shown near the bottom of the image) and produce calcitonin.
