Respiratory Histology - Emphysema

This view shows the alveoli found in EMPHYSEMA at 100X magnification.

Notice the extremely enlarged and damaged alveolar walls characteristic of emphysema.

Alveoli are enlarged with destruction of walls that reduce gas exchange. These alveoli often do not expand easily making ventilation more labored and difficult.
