Histology Review - Nervous Tissue
image 1

NERVOUS TISSUE is shown here at 100X magnification.

A single large multi-polar neuron is shown at the center of this image, with many long branches extending off the main body of the neuron.

The long branches are mostly dendrites which act as "antennae" for the cell to recieve signals from other cells.

Every neuron will also have a single axon which acts as the "transmitter" to send signals to other cells.

In this view, there are also many smaller neuroglial cells [A] scattered around the neuron which provide protection and support for the neuronal cells.
